create space for Jesus

3 Ways to Create Space for Jesus

I’m doing a Bible study of the book of Acts. We’re going through it chapter by chapter learning how the Holy Spirit empowered the apostles to share the gospel. The following sentences caused me to pause during my study time.

“Do not cease pursuing what God has called you to do. The world doesn’t need another quick fix or cute shirt, it needs us to help others learn to love God greatly.”

I spent some time thinking about why God has called me share about faith and fitness. And the bottom line is this: To create space for Jesus in our lives.

Even though being a Christ follower means that Jesus lives in me and you, I believe that we don’t always let Him fully inhabit the whole of us.  We allow things – worries, struggles, etc. – to distract us and take up space that should be His.

It wasn’t that I didn’t know Jesus, it was that this issue in my life took up more space than He did.

When I was at my worst with my body image and weight loss struggles, I spent all of my mental and emotional energy worrying about it. Yes, I prayed and searched scripture, but I didn’t allow Him to infiltrate my heart enough to change how I was focusing my time and attention. I was often distracted when I was interacting with others because I worried that they might be judging my appearance.

But then I found freedom from this all-consuming struggle.

Let’s face it, when we’re not feeling good in our body it is all-consuming. It affects our mood and how we interact with others. This struggle impacts whether we show up with confidence, and sometimes whether we’ll show up at all! But, when I finally opened my heart to God’s truth about me and for me, I began walking in freedom.  I learned how to live fit and free.

I was able to create space for Jesus and enjoy more of the life that God had designed for me.

And so, when I was working on my Bible study that day, God confirmed to me that the reason you and I need to build a healthy life on a foundation of faith is so that we can create space for Jesus in our lives, for more of Him and more of what matters…loving God and others.

If you feel like your weight and body struggles are consuming too much of your time and energy and distracting you from what matters, now is the time for you to change that. You can change that. I was able to do it, and I want to help you do it too. I know how much better you can feel when you’re not worrying about your weight all the time.

3 Ways to Create Space for Jesus

Put your quiet time on your calendar Make an appointment with Jesus.  We always find time for the things that are important to us.  I know your relationship with Jesus is important to you.  Things just may have gotten jumbled up lately, but you can get that back.

Invite Him into your struggles.  Whether it’s weight loss worries, work, or another issue that’s troubling you, seek Him for how to deal with it.  Don’t allow that struggle to dominate your time and energy.

Get outside.  I know it may not sound “super spiritual,” but Jesus is everywhere.  Getting outside does so many things for us physically, mentally, and emotionally, but it also has spiritual impact because it connects us to our Creator.
