Choose Life ~ Sunday Devotional
Faith and fitness. Fit and free.
Those are two phrases that are used a lot around here. What’s that all about?
How does my faith and fitness have anything to do with each other?
What does living fit and free even mean?
First of all, I believe that God is interested in everything about us. He cares about the condition of our heart both spiritually and physically.
Secondly, He wants all that we do be done to glorify Him by putting Him first. That means the care of our bodies needs to be committed to Him, allowing Him to guide us on our healthy living journey.
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;” Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV)
Choose life.
Choose to live fully.
Choose to live in freedom.
For our purposes of the topic of faith and fitness, when we choose life, we choose to do fitness God’s way. We choose to incorporate habits that lead to freedom not restriction. Habits that bring peace not guilt. Move as an act of worship not punishment.
We choose not to allow the number on the scale or the pursuit of weight loss to distract us from living the life God has called us to live.
To be sure, we can’t go about the business of loving and serving others if we are not well. But wellness is not determined by the size of our jeans.
We know we are well in mind and body when we can carry out our daily tasks without physical or mental struggle.
He gives us a choice. Are you choosing life?
