celebrate freedom

Let’s Celebrate Freedom in 2022!

For the last several years, I’ve chosen a word and a verse for the year. No resolutions. Not really any goals either. I do short challenges in my Facebook group like going one mile a day or a plank a day for a short period of time, but I don’t set goals at the beginning of the year. Mostly I approach the year with intention, and choosing a word and a verse for the year is what helps me with that.

Some words I’ve had in recent years:

For the most part, I have an easy time choosing my word each year. I start working through my process a couple of months in advance. Prayer and reflection is a big part of that. This year, however, I didn’t settle on celebrate freedom until the last day of 2021. I know, it’s two words instead of one, but this is where I feel God led me.

God is in the business of setting people free. I’m ready to celebrate freedom this year and you can too! Click To Tweet

2022 is significant for a couple of reasons. For one, I’ll be turning 50. When I started thinking about that, words like celebrate, joy, authentic, embrace, free came to me. I want to fully step into who God created me to be at this age and stage of life. Although I have always had the intention to be who I am, real and transparent, I wanted to make this year one when I’m completely free to be me, when I’m intentionally honoring who and how God created me to be. Which then led me to the second part of my word and that’s to freedom.

2022 is also significant because it’s been 10 years since I followed God out of the desert of diets, gimmicks, and quick fixes. Living fit and free for 10 years is something to celebrate too.

Putting those things together, I believe that this is the year for me to celebrate freedom. Celebrate what God has done in my life and celebrate the life He has given me. When you celebrate something, you share it. I brings you joy. You’re confidence in it. You embrace it. What you’re celebrating is something you’re proud of and fully into.

Some verses that I’m looking to as I celebrate freedom:

Luke 13:12-13 – God healed and set free this woman for a purpose – to glorify Him. I believe God set me free so that I can glorify Him and help other women live fit and free as well.

Philippians 1:6 – God began a work in me the day He created me continuing it when He set me free, and I’m confident in that purpose. I will spend this year allowing Him to continue the work and to use me for the purpose He created me.

Galatians 5:1 – This was the first verse that came to me. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. The key word here is “again.” I want to stay free, continue in the freedom that God called me to. No going back.

This year I will celebrate freedom.

I will celebrate who God called me to be. I’m embracing it. I will show up authentically, confidently, free to be the me He created me to be.

For Christmas, I received One Good Word A Day. It’s a daily devotional that gives you a word each day to focus on. It was a simple acknowledgement to me that I was following God by having a general focus, a phrase instead of one word, for the year: celebrate freedom. I will use this book to explore a new word each day this year. I’m writing the day’s word in my planner so I can reflect on it throughout the day.

Every year, every day, that God gives us here on earth is one to be celebrated. But this year in particular is one that I want to celebrate. In the Bible, 50 is the year of Jubilee. Instead of dreading turning 50, I choose to celebrate. I choose to help women find their freedom and celebrate whatever age or stage of life that she finds herself.

I turn 50 on September 20. On August 2, I will be kicking off 50 Days to 50. Plans are still coming together, but stay tuned. I’ll be inviting you to go along with me. I’m thinking there will be gratitude prompts, daily devotions, and daily movement involved. A daily dose of Jesus, fresh air, and movement is everything for me, and it can be for you too!

God is in the business of setting people free. I’m ready to celebrate and help you join me in living fit and free!
