Your Beautiful Mess ~ Sunday Devotion

Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest. Proverbs 14:4 (NLT)

Life is messy. If you live it, that is.

What’s the meaning of this verse about an ox? Well, no oxen means a clean stable. But nothing gets done either. However, if you want a harvest, you’re going to need an ox. I don’t need to tell you what comes with an ox, but it’s certainly not a clean stable.

The note in my Bible about this verse says, “Some disturbance is necessary for growth and accomplishment to occur.”

Do you want to grow? To improve in an area of your life? Keep moving forward and making progress? It’s going to take some work, and oftentimes that means it’s going to get messy.

Believe it or not, I don’t like to sweat. I don’t like to be hot. But I exercise most every day; therefore, I get hot and sweaty and stinky. I can appreciate that sweat because I know it’s good for me. I’ve sweat through many miles to train for marathons. There’s nothing like crossing that finish line and reaching those goals. But it wasn’t always pretty getting there.

The diet industry preys on women who want quick fixes. They create what looks like a neat and easy plan to follow. But then it doesn’t work like it was supposed to, and you don’t get results. You’re left feeling like a failure having made no progress. Worse yet, you’ve gone backwards.

Get a little messy and start living your life. The result will be beautiful because it’ll be your beautiful mess! Click To Tweet

How about focusing on your own life and living your own beautiful mess. Give yourself permission to get dirty, do the hard work, and reap the benefits along the way.

Try out different ways to exercise and find the one that you can stick to and that gets you to your goals.

Listen to your own body and learn your hunger and fullness cues then honor them. You’re not going to get it right every time, but when you put in the work, you’ll get results.

What’s going to be your ox? What area of your life are you going to disturb a little so that you can make progress? Get a little messy and start living your life. The result will be beautiful because it’ll be your beautiful mess!
