Walking on a Beach
Less than a week ago, I was walking on a beach in Florida. It was early Sunday morning just as the sun was starting to rise. A song had been going through my mind on repeat for what felt like the previous twenty-four hours. It was playing in my mind as I walked on the beach. The refrain says: You are good. You can only be good. You can’t be anything else. You can’t be anything else.
I was meditating on those words. They became a prayer in my mind, then I hung my head and said, “And I’m so not good, God.” I just felt defeated because of mess ups, words spoken in haste, simply because I’m a sinner. But when I took my next step, I noticed a partially covered sand dollar. I bent down to brush the sand off of it and found a perfectly shaped sand dollar. I’ve never found a perfect one. Tears came to my eyes as God spoke into my heart, I see you. I hear you. I love you as you are.
If that time on the beach wasn’t enough, God met me a couple of hours later at a church we visited. He drove home this same message that we are all sinners and yet He loves us, accepts us, and calls us to be holy as He is holy. Because of His grace, holiness is possible.
God is good, and He can only be good. While I am not, His love covers me, and He sees good in me too. Click To TweetI’m not sure what you’re going through right now, but God sees you. He hears your prayers. He’s ready to offer forgiveness and reconcile you to Himself. God loves you just as you are. You don’t have to be walking on a beach to meet Him. He’s everywhere. Simply call out to Him.
