It’s Time to Be Refreshed ~ Sunday Devotion

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, Acts 3:19 (NIV)

I was tired. Tired of fighting. Tired of the worry. Tired of obsessing about five or ten pounds. I had spent most of my years living like my life’s purpose was to lose weight. I wanted to be free from this struggle, but I felt stuck. I felt like I had to do this. Every message around me said that this is just what women do…we pursue weight loss at all costs.

Finally, I saw the light. The first thing I had to do was repent. I had to ask God to forgive me for being so superficial. While I spent years convincing myself that I was self-conscious and suffered low self-esteem, I had to admit that it was all about me. It was pride in disguise.

After I repented, I had to choose to turn from that lifestyle. I had to learn how to care for my body and be healthy without being driven by a number on a scale.

Once I repented and turned from a negative way to pursue health and fitness, God restored me. My time of refreshing came. I learned how to honor my body in a way that honored God, my Creator. I began living fit and free.

Are you ready to be refreshed? God is ready to refresh and restore you. He wants to be your number one pursuit. Will you surrender and trust Him? #FaithAndFitness Click To Tweet

It’s not fun to admit to sin. It’s hard to look at something that seems right – pursuing health isn’t a sin, is it? Not in and of itself, but sometimes a seemingly good thing can take us off on the wrong path. We have to check our motivations. Weight loss had become an idol. The pursuit of health and fitness became an idol for me.

Has this seemingly good thing become an idol for you too? Has it shuffled its way to becoming your top priority? Are you tired of fighting, obsessing, and worrying? Are you ready to be refreshed? God is ready for you. He’s ready to refresh and restore you. He wants to be your number one pursuit. Will you surrender and trust Him?

Action Step: Are you feeling anything less than refreshed? If so, take inventory. Do you need to lay something at the Lord’s feet? Is it time to repent and turn to God and let Him lead you in a particular area in your life? Don’t wait another day. There’s nothing like being restored and walking fully in the Lord’s will.

Happy Sunday!
