Looking for Approval From Others ~ Sunday Devotion

For they loved human praise more than the praise of God. John 12:43 (NLT)

In a world of likes and follows and shares, it’s easy to get caught up in looking for approval from others. Even before social media existed, there were still the “popular kids.” I remember working so hard to prepare for cheerleader tryouts in elementary, but I didn’t make it because I wasn’t popular. I was crushed. I just wanted to be accepted. I wanted to be part of the “in crowd.” Way back to the times of Jesus, people were more concerned about receiving approval from others than from God.

Who are you looking to for validation?

I spent years looking to others, trying to achieve society’s standards, for validation, for acceptance. I thought losing weight would help me gain approval from others. The world sends all kinds of messages trying to distract us from being focused on the One whose opinion truly matters. To start, that One loves us, and nothing can change it. You don’t have to look a certain way, wear a size small, or obtain financial success to be loved and accepted by Him. He made you and put His stamp of approval on you.

Losing weight will not help you gain approval from others. The Lord already put His stamp of approval on you. Share on X

Action Step: Why are you doing what you’re doing? In your family. In your career. With your body. Take some time to consider your motivation. What do you need to change to start living your life for an audience of One?

Happy Sunday!
