Another Way ~ Sunday Devotion

Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way. Matthew 2:12 (NKJV)

The world has its way of doing things, but God often has another way. The question is, “Will you and I trust and obey?”

We would do well to follow His ways. In Isaiah 55, we read that God’s ways are not our ways. They are bigger and better and so much more than ours. I pray that I would be obedient like the magi and take heed to the dream, to divine inspiration, and go another way.

The world would have you believe that a smaller body is a better body. It would tell you that you need to cut calories and exercise an hour a day. Carbs and sugar are bad. If you’re not dieting, you’re slacking. The world would have you believe that your weight, your jeans size, your body shape determines your happiness. But God has another way for you. He has a different route for you to follow in taking care of yourself and to finding true joy and fulfillment. He doesn’t want you to go about it the world’s way. That way leads to feelings of failure, superficial living, and roller coaster emotions. It might lead to a smaller body, but it will also lead to a smaller life in general. God wants you to embrace your age and stage of life and live large! Not necessarily a larger body but a larger, fuller life.

The way God wants you to go on your healthy living journey is to first learn what He has to say about you. You do that by spending time in His Word. Fill your spirit with His truth. Receive His unconditional love. Notice how He created you in a unique way.

Once you’ve let His Word take root, then you can rely on His Spirit to guide you to care for your body in a way that honors how He uniquely created you. And because you are unique, your plan won’t look like anyone else’s. He will have you go another way. Will you follow?

Action Step: It’s time to get moving. What path will you follow? It’s okay if you need to pause and pivot in God’s direction.

Happy Sunday!
