Add to Your Faith ~ Sunday Devotion

Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness… 2 Peter 1:5-6 (NIV)

There’s a whole list of things in this passage that you can add to your faith. But first you must be established in that faith. Then you grow by adding one thing then another. It’s like building blocks. You set the one. Then you pick up another one and so on. It’s a process. Nothing gets built all at once.

With my Faith and Fitness Framework™, I help women build a healthy life on a foundation of faith. The key here is the foundation of faith. We get that established, then we add to the faith you’ve established. Fitness encompasses all of our healthy habits. Things like movement, water, nutrition, rest, mental health. 

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the desire to improve our lives, spiritually or physically. But this verse reminds us to take one step at a time. Add to. Do one thing, then the next. It’s a process. Transformations don’t happen overnight. 

Instead of doing nothing at all or becoming completely consumed, unable to do anything else, add to your faith one thing at a time. Share on X

I used to spend countless hours reading articles, scrolling the internet, and studying various types of fitness plans and programs to determine the one that would help me lose weight and never have to worry about it again. If you read enough, you’ll realize that all that information either contradicts each other leaving you utterly confused, or there will be so many things for you to do that getting fit will become a full-time job. Instead of doing nothing at all or becoming completely consumed, unable to do anything else, add to your faith one thing at a time. Set the foundation, then allow the Lord to direct your next step and to help you in the process. 

With each choice, you can have a small amount of success. It’s these small victories that propel you to lasting change. If you want to drink more water, start by replacing your soda at lunch with a glass of water. If you want to move more, get up right now and take a short walk. If you want to improve your nutrition, sit down and eat without distractions.  

Action Step: What one thing can you add to your faith today? Pick a small action that you can do then celebrate that victory. This is how you will make sustainable, lasting progress.
