It’s All About the Word ~ Sunday Devotion
Let my cry come before You, O Lord; give me understanding according to Your word. Psalm 119:169 (NKJV)
This time of year has people reflecting on the year that’s nearly behind us. Then they shift their focus to the year ahead. Often that includes setting goals and making plans. Too many of those goals and plans are related to a number on the scale.
You are more than a number.
I cried way too many tears over a number on the scale. God saw those tears. He heard me crying alone. He was there when I spent time in His Word. But I spent the majority of my time searching for direction and for solutions online and in magazines, and trying things that other people were doing. I wasted so much time, money, and mental energy.
If you’re finding yourself reflecting and not necessarily liking how the year has gone, take those concerns to the Lord. Ask Him to help you make your plans instead of doing it on your own, or worse, copying what someone else is doing. Spend your time with Him and in His Word to learn what He wants you to pursue in the coming year.
When I turned north on my journey, headed out of that wilderness, and started building my fitness on a foundation of faith, I gained more understanding from His Word and how to apply it to that area of my life. If you ask Him, He’ll give you understanding too. He’ll help you see what is beneficial for you at this age and stage of life. You can be healthy in spirit, mind, and body without jumping on a bandwagon or buying into the latest diet trend. In fact, if you want to live an overall healthy life, it’s imperative that you stay away from those things and spend time in God’s Word to seek His guidance and plan for your life.
Take some time to reflect this week. If there’s an area of your life that you want to improve next year, go to God’s Word. Ask Him to give you understanding about the direction He wants you to take, then obediently follow.
Happy Sunday!
