A Glimpse into my Planner – What Happened in April
I got a new planner this year and so I started a series that I’m titling “A Glimpse Into My Planner”.
Each month* I’m giving you a glimpse of what’s been happening, because I now keep EVERYTHING in this planner since there is a space for EVERYTHING.
Just to recap:
Each day not only has lines for my to do list, it also has 3 sections that I love:
- The Big 3 – This helps me prioritize. What 3 things MUST I get done today?
- Wellness – Daily workouts.
- Gratitude – 3 things for which I’m grateful on that given day.
I also make note of things the Lord shows me during my daily quiet time.
This new planner has reduced my desk by 3 books, and I have it all in one place and I love it. I also love going back through my month to see what worked, what didn’t, what I got done, what I still need to do and so on.
It's time to take a look back at what happened in April. #faithandfitness #planner #kitlife Click To Tweet
April was a really full month!
It was packed with fun and growth opportunities. And it flew by! I can’t believe it’s already over. It’s going to be hard to hit all the highlights but I’ll do my best!
I had 2 big goals for the month:
- Prepare and promote my Spring Fitness Program
- Get my heel healed up once and for all
Goal #1 went well.
The Spring Fitness Program officially began on Sunday April 29 with 12 motivated women who are ready to start feeling better from the inside out. They’re going to know what it’s like to be living fit and free by summer. I will likely offer this program again in August. Contact me if you’d like me to keep you posted.
Goal #2 was a personal goal and really a prayer for healing.
Following is what I began writing at the end of April, just a few days before the end of the month. And it was absolutely true…..
While not completely better, my heel is much better than it was at the first of the month. It wasn’t plantar fasciitis as you might think (been there, done that!), it was just an odd pain that was making my runs very frustrating. Thankfully with some exercises and heel inserts plus the use of my Chiroflex, and prayer of course, that is getting better.
Now insert an update as I’m finalizing this post for publication just a couple days into May…..
However, on Sunday April 29 I got a weird pain (literally in the middle of the day and I had not even run that morning) in the side of my foot. It wasn’t right and I knew it. I started icing it, etc. Chose to run my normal 3 miles with our local running club on Monday evening. It hurt but didn’t get worse and yet a little bruising started happening.
Long story short (and spoiler alert for the beginning of May), on Tuesday May 2nd I saw my doctor and discovered I had not only a stress fracture at the base of my 5th metatarsal (my pinky toe) and peroneal tendonitis but also an old fracture in my big toe. Ugh! (To be continued in my May recap!)
April didn't end up quite like I wanted it to. To be continued in May. #injuredrunner #stayingpositive Click To Tweet
Running is a big deal for me. Not only is it my favorite way to exercise, it’s also a social experience (hello Shelby Roadrunners!), stress reliever, and my holy ground. So when an injury pops up, it has a big effect.
I’ll write more about running and injury and adapting in my May recap. Please stay tuned and include me in your prayers if you will.
April highlights to note:
My son Ethan turned 15 on the 16th.
He is maturing into a fine young man. He plays golf, is in the top 10 of his freshman class, is currently going through confirmation classes, and is working on his driver’s permit.
I spoke to a group of ladies at a local charity tea.
There were over 100 in attendance and I had the privilege of sharing with them my journey from being a shy, self-conscious girl to writing a devotional to standing in front of them encouraging them to find their place to be a blessing in the world.
Speaking about faith and fitness and motivating women to be all that God has called her to be is becoming my sweet spot. Not because I love to get on a stage, but because I love to share this message God has placed on my heart. If you’d like me to speak to your group, please contact me.

Workouts
I didn’t get nearly as many outside bike miles in as I usually do in April. The weather has been unbelievable. …and not in a good way! Winter just didn’t want to go away. In addition to 62 bike miles, I had 54 miles inside on the trainer and 79.5 miles running. Given the recent development with my foot and improved weather, I expect bike miles to go up drastically and run miles decline to minimal if any. I also did yoga and lifted.
Gratitude
I connected with a lot of people during the month. I had several coffee dates and bike rides with friends. I’m grateful for opportunities to meet new people and connect with good friends and family. It reminds me that we are in this life together.
Truth Bomb
In my she works His way app devo on Friday April 6 the takeaway was “Not Jesus first, Jesus only”. In the midst of a busy month, many neat opportunities, learning and growth, I kept coming back to this. It has to be Jesus only. Eyes on Him.
Fun note
I changed the cover on my planner for the second quarter. It is timely with the busy month, spring fitness program, and new opportunities coming at me as well as the most recent injury. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.
I’m looking forward to all the possibilities that this quarter will bring. And I’ll keep documenting and sharing with you along the way.
As always, I invite you to connect with me on social media, in my free facebook group or via email (marsha@marshaapsley.com).
